Dick was born and raised in Montgomery, IN.  His parents, Ray and Faye Smith, were both teachers. Ilene and Jerry were his siblings.  Dick’s family lineage follows Smith, Hunter, Parsons and Jones lines.  He graduated from Montgomery High School in 1954 and attended Cincinnati Bible Seminary (now Cincinnati Christian University) that fall.  While there, he met Wilma Jean Burris and married on her 28 May, 1957.  Both graduated from CBS in 1958.  Dick also received an MA in 1960 & MDiv in 1976.

The Dick and Wilma are parents of Glenda Scudder, Barbara Wilkinson, and Robert and Roger Smith. They also have thirteen grandchildren.

Ministries include Wrays near Brownstown, IN; White Oak youth minister near Cincinnati; Flora, IL youth minister; Central Africa Mission in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe); South Pacific Evangelizing Fellowship in Takaka, New Zealand; Camp Illiana; and the Plainville minister until 2001 when he became the Minister of Pastoral Care at Odon Christian Church.

Some things Dick likes:  people, gospel music, game shows, hunting, wood-working, sports, travel, orange and purple, hot and cold pies, Reds, Colts, PU, IU, good preaching, Olympics, Camp Illiana, Rook, Dominoes, mountains and

                                                       beaches.
